Start Your Riding Journey

Dapple Lane offers English riding lessons for children, teens and adults in Vancouver’s beautiful Southlands neighbourhood. Nestled among sprawling estates and equestrian properties, our riding school offers the convenience of learning to ride without leaving the city.

Our program focuses on building strong riding foundations, confidence, and a genuine understanding of the horse, with lessons tailored to each rider’s experience and goals.

Our facility features two well-lit outdoor sand arenas and a barn home to more than a dozen lesson horses and ponies. Most lessons take place in the arenas, while wet or frozen footing provides an opportunity for trail or road rides, or lessons focused on horse care, grooming and stable management.

Consistency & Horsemanship

Weekly Commitment

Students are required to participate in at least one lesson per week to support consistency, progression, and continuity throughout the riding season. A regular weekly schedule allows us to reserve a consistent time, match riders with appropriate horses or ponies, and maintain continuity with our instructional team. Additional or occasional drop-in lessons may be available based on scheduling and availability.

Riding & Horsemanship

Learning to ride involves much more than time in the saddle. Grooming and tacking up are an important part of every lesson, giving riders the opportunity to develop practical horsemanship skills alongside their riding instruction. This hands-on experience helps build confidence, responsibility, and a better understanding of the horse.

Our instructors provide guidance throughout the process, with additional support for newer riders to ensure each lesson is safe, educational, and appropriate for the rider’s experience level.

Our Policies

Late Arrivals

Clients must ensure they arrive at Rosewood at least 15 - 20 minutes prior to their lesson and are prepared to start their lesson at the assigned start time.

  • Clients who arrive late will automatically forfeit the portion of the lesson missed regardless of the reason for their lateness; lessons will end at the scheduled time regardless of what time the client arrived or started. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • If participating in a group or semi-private lesson, clients who arrive 15 minutes or more late will not be permitted to join the lesson; doing so is disruptive to the other rider(s); the lesson will not be rescheduled, and the client is responsible for the lesson fee in full. NO EXCEPTIONS

If for some reason the instructor will/does arrive late for your lesson, she will:

  • Provide you with as much notice as possible.

  • Offer you an alternative lesson time if necessary/possible.

  • Prorate your lesson fee based upon the total lesson time you receive.

  • NOT allow your lesson to run over into the next lesson slot as this is not fair to others and will cause inconvenience for all subsequent riders.

Cancellations

A minimum of 24-hours notice is required in order to cancel a lesson to receive a makeup class. Please email info@dapplelane.com to inform of any lesson dates that need to be canceled. If canceling with less than 24-hour notice, the lesson will not be rescheduled, and the full lesson price will be billed.

Inclement Weather

Lessons are held rain or shine but will be cancelled in the event of severe weather such as thunder/lightning, extreme heat or cold. Rosewood will follow local school closings; if schools are closed due to severe weather, then the barn will be closed as well.

  • These classes will be re-scheduled; if lessons must be cancelled due to inclement weather, Rosewood staff will attempt to contact you before the lesson at the number you have provided.

  • It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that Rosewood has your current contact information.   Weather conditions in Southlands may be different from weather in the Client's area at any certain time. If you do not hear from our staff, please assume that lessons will take place as scheduled.
